Exercise Alternatives to Strength Training

Exercise Alternatives to Strength Training

There are so many ways to be active, do not rule them out.

A recent realization I have come to is you do not need to lift to be fit or healthy. There are so many other ways to become active.

For the past few years, I have put a lot of my focus into lifting. For a while, it ruined the sport. Going to the gym felt more like a chore than something I enjoyed doing. I grew up a swimmer and tried basketball, volleyball, snowboarding, and so much more. I was an active girl. I just started lifting when I was a junior in high school and again my junior year of college. It was engraved in my head that I had to lift to be fit, because that is what I saw on social media.

There are so many ways to live a healthy lifestyle that does not include lifting. These ways include swimming, cycling, running, playing a team sport, anything to get your body up and moving. If lifting is not your thing or you are scared to join a gym and try lifting, you do not have to!

Pick something you enjoy doing. Pick something that you get excited thinking about and preparing for. You can achieve a healthy and fit lifestyle through other ways than just lifting.

On top of staying active, diet plays a huge role in your healthy lifestyle as well. Try to eat a balanced and flexibly diet. You do not have to cut out sweets and junk food 100% immediately. You do not have to cut it out entirely at all! It is called balance. Treat yourself every once in a while, to a treat like a cookie or dessert or eat out and enjoy a burger.

You do not want your healthy lifestyle to feel like a chore, you want it to be something you enjoy doing. Find out various ways to achieve that and set your mind to it. If you do not enjoy what you are doing, try to go about it a different way. There is not a one plan fits all lifestyle for becoming healthy. Trial and error is the best way to find out what you enjoy and what you do not enjoy. Make some mistakes, try something new, live your life how you want to, not how you think you are supposed to.
